A history of Taverners events in June

The month of June in previous years has seen a variety of events from luncheons and galas, both nationally and regionally, banquets, anniversaries and tributes, Eve of Tests, jazz evenings and Lady Taverners events.

14 June 1977 The Lord's Taverners Sportsnight Forum to meet the Australians 1977 at the Hilton Hotel, London.

6 June 1981 The Lord's Taverners Churchill Banquet at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire.

21 June 1982 The Lord's Taverners City Region Reception at the Mansion House to welcome to Pakistan Touring Team.

24 June 1983 Lord's Taverners Eve of Prudential World Cup Cricket Final Dinner held at Cafe Royal, London.

13 June 1984 The Lord's Taverners West Midlands Region Eve of Test Match Gala Dinner at the County Ground, Edgbaston, Birmingham. The toasts and speakers were Sir Leslie Fletcher, Brian Johnston, Christopher Martin-Jenkins, Bob Bevan, Jerry Stevens, Nicholas Parsons and HRH Duke of Edinburgh.

18 June 1986 The Lord's Taverners Yorkshire Region Eve of Test Match Dinner at Queens Hotel, Leeds.

27 June 1992 The Lord's Taverners Jersey Region 10th Anniversary Summer Ball.

26 June 1993 The Lady Taverners Northumberland & Durham Summer Masquerade Ball.

1 June 1994 The Lady Taverners Derby Day Brunch at Conrad Hotel, Chelsea Harbour.

15 June 1994 The Lady Taverners Hampshire Region inaugural lunch at Winchester.

16 June 1995 The Lady Taverners East Midlands Jazz Evening at The Wheelhouse, Long Whatton.

21 June 1995 The Lord's Taverners Eve of Lord's Test Dinner at the London Hilton on Park Lane, with guest speakers The Rt. Red. Lord Runcie, John Price, Sir Colin Cowdrey, Sonny Ramadhin, Alf Valentine, Derek Thompson, Bob Bevan.

15 June 1999 The Lord's Taverners Eve of World Cup Semi-Final Dinner at Old Trafford, Manchester with guest speakers Lord Francis Stafford President Lord's Taverners North-West Region, Charles Wormsley, Sir Tim Rice, Vince Miller, Nicholas Parsons, John Fingleton, Russell Watson, Rory Bremner.

25 June 1999 The Lady Taverners Judith Chalmers OBE Tribute Lunch to Dame Thora Hird at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane. Guest speakers were Dame Thora Hird, Judith Chalmers, Joan Morecambe, Nicholas Parsons, Neil Durden-Smith.

7 June 2000 The Lord's Taverners West Midlands Region Gala Dinner 50th Anniversary at Metropole Hotel, National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. With guest speakers Ian Metcalfe, Gary Allen, Mark Williams, M.J.K. Smith, John Elliott, Dennis Amiss, Sir Leslie Fletcher, Gladstone Small, Paul Drinkall, Marri Griffin, David Lloyd, Stan Boardman, Bill Tidy, David Tilt.

17 June 2000 Midsummer's Ball in aid of The Lord's Taverners 50th Year with guest speakers David Irving, Judith Chalmers, Nicholas Parsons, Neil Durden-Smith and Sir Tim Rice.

28 June 2000 The Lord's Taverners Eve of Lord's Test Dinner to celebrate a West Indies summer on the 50th Anniversary of their famous victory at Lord's in 1950 at the London Hilton, Park Lane. Guest speakers were Revd. Andrew Wingfield-Digby, Roger Smith, Tony Crozier, Sir Tim Rice, Revd. Wes Hall, Rory Bremner, Neil Durden-Smith, Bob Bevan.

27 June 2003 The Lord's Taverners Six-a-Side Trophy played at the late Sir Paul Getty's Ground, Wormsley.

9 June 2005 The President's Ball the Lord's Taverners Carnival of Dance at Hurlingham Club, London with celebrities from the TV series 'Strictly Come Dancing'. Toasts and speakers were Mike Gatting, The Karizma Crew, Stan Park, Richard Groom, Ainsley Harriott, The Giev Showband, Esther Rantzen and Celebrity Dancers from Strictly Come Dancing, Colin Mills and Colin Salmon.

16 June 2006 The Lord's Taverners Tribute Dinner to Mike Gatting at the Tower of London. The toasts and speakers were Mark Nicholas, Richard Stilgoe, Jo Rice, Nick Stewart, Bob Bevan. Tributes by Mike Brearley, Michael Cockerell, Stephen Fry, David Graveney, Sir John Major, Sir Tim Rice, Richard Stilgoe.

25 June 2007 The Lord's Taverners Tribute Dinner to Sir Garfield Sobers at the London Hilton on Park Lane. The toasts and speakers were Bill Tidy, Tony Cozier, Jo Rice, Nick Stewart. Tributes Trevor Bailey, Ted Dexter, Tom Graveney, Paul Keens-Douglas, Clive Lloyd, Sir Michael Stoute, Sir Everton Weekes.

10 June 2008 The Lady Taverners 21st Anniversary President's Dinner with Guest of Honor Geoffrey Boycott hosted by Rachael Heyhoe Flint with entertainment by Kevin Connelly at the Long Room, Lord's Cricket Ground. Toasts and speakers were Rachael Heyhoe Flint, Maggie Smith, Brian Greenan, Marilyn Fry, Geoffrey Boycott, Kevin Connelly, Neil Durden-Smith, Judith Chalmers.

12 June 2009 The Young Lord's Taverners 21st Anniversary Ball at The Landmark Hotel. Louis Hoover as Frank Sinatra, Michael Neilson as Dean Martin and Jason Pennycooke as Sammy Davis Jr. dancing to Fully Funktional. The toasts and speakers were Chris Cowdrey, Simon Cleobury, Nicholas Parsons, Huw Learner.

16 June 2010 The Lord's Taverners Diamond Jubilee 1950-2010 Celebrating 50 Years of Carnaby Street Music and Fashion at Kingly Court, Carnaby Street. The toast and speakers were Chris Tarrant, DJ Mike Read, The Paul Cattermole Band, Danny Fisher, Mike Gatting, The Fabba Girls, and The Bootleg Beatles.

22 June 2010 The Lord's Taverners Diamond Jubilee 1950-2010 Diamond Jubilee Dinner to honor our Twelfth Man His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh at St. James's Palace. Toasts and speakers were Chris Tarrant, Rachael Heyhoe Flint, John Ayling, Richard Stilgoe, Bob Bevan, Neil Durden-Smith, His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh Twelfth Man.

6 June 2011 The Lord's Taverners An Evening with The Rt. Hon. Sir John Major at The BT Tower. The toasts and speakers were John Ayling, Sally Surridge, Charlie Ross, Bob Bevan, and Sir John Major.

25 June 2012 The Lord's Taverners / The Lady Taverners / The Young Lord's Taverners Tribute Dinner to The Lady Taverners in the presence of our Twelfth Man His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh at St. George's Hall, Windsor Castle. Toasts and speakers were Chris Cowdrey President of The Lord's Taverners, Sir Richard Stilgoe, Angela Rippon President of The Lady Taverners, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Sir Tim Rice, Rick Wakeman, Clare Teal.

11 June 2019 Andrew Strauss Trophy Golf Day at Stoke Park Country Club.
