A fitting finale for the Johnners Trust

This month saw the last ever Johnners Dinner hosted in the famous Long Room at Lord’s, which was a very suitable occasion to bring the curtain down on the Trust formed in the broadcasting great’s name.

On Thursday 15 May following the Lord’s Taverners AGM, Tim Luckhurst completed his five-year term as Chair during the charity’s 75th anniversary year. Tim has played a pivotal role in overseeing the transformation of the charity, to what is now a more modern organisation that is entirely focused on delivering community cricket programmes for young people with disabilities and from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Speaking about his experience, Tim said: “I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me over the past five years. There’s been some fantastic memories to look back on and some great achievements but most importantly, I’m so honoured to have had the chance to meet and work with lots of incredible people.

"The Lord’s Taverners is truly a unique organisation, with an incredible history but one that has adapted to the times and has an exciting future to look forward to. Seeing our programmes first-hand can’t help but make me feel so proud that we, as Taverners, are helping the charity have such a positive impact, up and down the country every week.

“The last five years have flown by. There have been a few tricky situations, but I truly believe that the Lord’s Taverners is going from strength to strength and will grow its reach and impact even further.”

Tim has been a wonderful advocate of the charity speaking at many events, spreading awareness of the work we do and the impact we have, as well as taking on the London Marathon as part of Team Tavs – not once, but twice! In doing so, Tim has helped raised £22,840 for the Lord’s Taverners, providing vital funds for the programmes we deliver and allowing us to empower even more young people facing the challenges of inequality.

We would like to thank Tim for being a fantastic Chair, who will be greatly missed by all having served his full term in the role.
