Glow in the Dark Cricket Lights Up Liverpool
To celebrate the launch of Lancashire Cricket’s new Wicketz hub in Liverpool, we were delighted to see pupils from St Christopher’s Primary School take part in the very first session at the brand-new facility at Lifestyles Austin Rawlinson in Speke.
The event marked an exciting milestone for Wicketz in the region, showcasing how community cricket can bring young people together through fun, inclusive and accessible activities.
Blessed with sunny September weather, 26 Year 5 pupils enjoyed a range of engaging cricket drills before exploring how the game can be adapted through our Table Cricket programme - a format designed to ensure everyone can take part, regardless of ability.
The fun then continued indoors, where pupils got creative with UV face and body paint before experiencing the highlight of the day - glow in the dark cricket!
With UV reactive equipment, luminous clothing and an upbeat playlist, the session created a vibrant and inclusive environment where every child could participate with confidence. Even the teachers joined in, embracing both the glowing paint and the games.
Eliesha Netherwood, Wicketz Development Officer, said:
“Using glow-in-the-dark cricket to showcase our programme provides an accessible and safe way for girls and boys to enjoy cricket without the nerves that can come with being watched while playing sport. It’s an effective way to break down barriers and encourage greater engagement in cricket.”
We're excited to continue to support the continued growth of Wicketz in Lancashire, with two new hubs launching in November - one for mixed participants aged 8–13, and another dedicated girls-only hub for the same age group.
