One year on at Bradfield's Academy
Last year, Bradfields Academy in Chatham, Kent received a brand-new wheelchair accessible minibus from the Lord's Taverners. They can now transport wheelchair users alongside non-wheelchair users for the first time and it has allowed for more trips that include everyone.
The Tavs and Lords & Commons got things started on Saturday with a T20 match superbly hosted by Tipton St John Cricket Club who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. A huge thank you to everyone at Tipton CC for their support, wonderful hospitality, and hosting both teams on the day.
The Tavs XI came up short in the match which set up the following day’s fixtures at Sidmouth CC.
Sadly, the weather intervened, and the full round of matches were not possible, so a combined Tavs and Lords & Commons side faced Sidmouth in a 15 over match with the hosts winning the game by just five runs despite some big hitting and a quick fire half century from England learning disability player Dan Bowser for the visitors.
The Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Linsday Hoyle, attended both days and even got the action underway on Sunday to bowl the first few balls at East Devon MP Simon Jupp, but it was the host club who lifted the inaugural trophy.
