Annual Golf Day
The wonderful Gog Magog Golf Club was the setting for the Lady Taverners Golf Day, hosted by Sally Barrett this year’s Lady Captain and long time Lady Taverner.
There was a fantastic turnout with nineteen teams, some local members and some from much further afield, with a good number of Lord’s and Lady Taverners amongst them including Derrin Gill, Director of the Lady Taverners. The teams set off under umbrellas but despite the occasional downpours all returned looking cheerful and well exercised. The results showed that local knowledge does help with Richard Stokes’ Fore Play Team winning the day and Sally and her ladies as runners up.
The golfers were joined by partners and Taverners for a delicious dinner, a great opportunity to compare the successes and disappointments of the day on the course. Our speaker, Mike Brace CBE, paralympian, Chair of the British Paralympic Association and great Taverners supporter (amongst many, many other titles) gave an inspiring and very entertaining talk with his beautifully behaved guide dog Izzy at his feet. He reinforced the message that the work the Taverners do can have a huge impact on the entire lives of disabled and disadvantaged people.
A very big thank you to Mike, Sally, the teams and the many members who helped make the day such a success.
