Lord's Taverners XI v Centrepoint XI
On a glorious July day at the beautiful Wormsley, a host of celebrities from the worlds of screen, stage and cricket turned out to support both the Lord’s Taverners and Centrepoint for its inaugural Charity Cricket Match.
John Emburey won the toss for Centrepoint and elected to bat but could have soon regretted it with Phil Spencer taking two early wickets including that of Jamie Dalyrymple. The middle order rallied with a quickfire 61 from David Wigley, 35 from Philip Defreitas and an imperious 7* from our sponsor Mark Petterson, with Centrepoint ending on 177 for 8 after their allotted 30 overs.
The Lord’s Taverners innings started inauspiciously with Mike Bushell being caught off Ed Giddins for 0 off his second ball but continued cautiously with Dave Lee, Gus Mackay, Duncan Bell and Brendan Cole all making contributions. With overs running out the Taverners skipper Martyn Ball was joined by Andy Caddick who must have had his weetabix for breakfast as he smote 41* off 15 balls to take the glory and the win off the last ball of the match.
Many thanks to all the sponsors, supporters, players and officials for making it such a great day and we look forward to doing battle in 2015.
