Lord's Taverners XI v Fields in Trust
Fields in Trust v Lord’s Taverners
The Lord’s Taverners batted first and lost openers Nigel Felton (0) in the first over and Lloyd Scott (0) shortly after to opening bowlers Finley Matheson and Ali Cheyne. Despite these loses the Taverners made an explosive start through Australian U19 Captain, Jake Doran (89), reaching 100 in the 14th over. Doran gave a first class exhibition of batting that was a pleasure to watch. He eventually fell when Fields in Trust turned to the mystery seam bowling of Simon Bates who had Doran caught by Victor Stairmand on the fine-leg boundary attempting another audacious six.
Victor Stairmand bowled very well for Fields in Trust taking 4 wickets including Paul Pritchard who scored an elegant 51. Finley Matheson mopped up the tail and finished with fine figures on an excellent batting wicket (8.3-3-31-3).
Fields in Trust were set a target of 225 to win and started strongly with an opening stand of 94 between Ali Cheyne (105 retired) and Luke Taylor (39). Graeme Le Saux (5), Non Evans (2) and Pat Nevin (8) all made fine contributions and the former Sonning CC Chairman, Ali Driver impressed with 34. Jake Doran and Taverners Captain Gus Mackay both bowled well taking two wickets each but the momentum was Fields in trust and Victor Stairmand hit a six to win the game with two overs to spare.
Ali Cheyne, from Masuri, was awarded the Man of the Match award by Ian Pogson from our sponsors Campey Turf Care Systems. Ali Cheyne had taken 2 wickets, 3 catches and retired on 105.
