Elvaston's journey to Lord's continues
Official Charity of The Davidstow National Village Cup, Lord's Taverners' aim is to boost the profile of clubs participating in the Cup, Elvaston CC will be followed until they are knocked out of the tournament or lifting the trophy at The Home of Cricket.
Elvaston CC faced Holmewood CC in the Derbyshire Regional Final at the weekend with the winner of the game making a 500 mile round trip to Wales for the National rounds.
Holmewood, although currently flying high at the top of Division 4 North of the Derbyshire County Cricket League, had no answer to the blend of youth and experience of their Division 1 opponents, Elvaston. Skipper Gareth Charlesworth won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Holmewood to bat, a decision fully backed up by his bowlers and in particular Kashif Hussain and Simon Lillie who took 3 wickets each.
In reply, Elvaston briefly struggled losing both openers with only 10 runs on the board but were put back on track by a stand of 48 between Matt Heafield and Zac Callaghan. Callaghan then went on to score 40 in a match winning stand with John Mills who saw his side through with 42 not out.
Elvaston, Village Cup champions of Derbyshire now face a 500 mile return journey to Cresselley, winners of the Dyffed group on Sunday June 22nd.
Not quite a full international match but still England v Wales and may the best team win.
