Enhancing Communities

We're hitting inequality for six

For many, accessing cricket is unobtainable due to socio-economic barriers. The cost of memberships or investments in kit and equipment is often too much for families to afford.

Our community-based cricket programmes provide free access to the sport we love, particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through our inclusive programmes, we provide a safe space for young people and their whole community to be involved in, allowing people from different backgrounds to come together as one.

"This hub is dependent on the environment being safe enough for community projects."

Wicketz in South Wales is a project in development and is having to adapt to the community and it's wider environment to provide a place for younger participants to make friends their own age and hopefully encourage them to stay in education for as long as possible.

The Need

Deprivation.png 31% of young people aged 8-18 face the risk of inequality because of their proximity to the highest levels of areas of multiple deprivation

Inequalities.png 4.3m people aged 8-18 living in England and Wales are at risk of inequality

"It breaks down those barriers of different communities."

Coaches, participants, parents and friends from Cricket East, Bedfordshire Police, England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the whole Luton Wicketz community came together for an Iftar to celebrate our young people, volunteers and coaches across the town.

Wicketz is so much more than a cricket programme, Wicketz is a family. When the whole community from all backgrounds come together, it creates a cohesive environment where young people can thrive.
