Annual Golf Day at Kenwick Park
The Lincolnshire Lady Taverners held their eighth annual charity golf day at Kenwick Park Golf Club. Despite a wet day, twenty-eight teams of four turned out to support this charity which supports sporting and recreational activities for young people with special needs by supplying specially adapted minibuses, sports wheelchairs and play, sports and sensory equipment. Locally, the group has helped to fund a specially adapted minibus for Sense in Louth.
Yvonne Wood, chairman of the Lincolnshire Lady Taverners, said: "This event has been running for the past eight years and it's always well attended. The entry fees, local business sponsorship and raffle has enabled the group to raise more than £30,000 so far. We like to spend the money raised locally and if any local school or group believes they would benefit from the support of the group, please apply online line at www.lordstaverners.org."
Actor Leslie Schofield, best known for his role as Jeff Healy in Eastenders between 1997 and 2000, said: " I was introduced to The Lady Taverners by my wife and have been playing in the event for the past five years. I really like Lincolnshire especially Louth, and as a keen golfer it's nice to be able to play and help raise money for a good cause at the same time."
Maria's Medley (namely Maria Brown), Lesley Walmsley, Carol Morrell and Linda Marwood won this event with 95 points. The team of Penny Buckley, Pam Hayward, Joan Fairbank and Dave Borman, known as Besom and Bosoms were runners-up with 94. The Spectrum team of Graham Cowley, Leslie Schofield, Dave Chubb and Wendy Green were third with 89. The final fourth prize went to Nigel Barr, Andrew Greetham, Bill Wilson and Nick Cutsforth who scored 87.
