Destination Lord's: Elvaston win again
The next round 2014 Davidstow National Village Cup took place on Sunday 25 May with our chosen'Destination: Lord's' team Elvaston Cricket Club, based in Derbyshire booking their place in the Regional Final. Official Charity of the Cup Lord's Taverners' aim is to boost the the profile of clubs participating in the Cup, Elvaston CC will be followed until they are knocked out of the tournament or lifting the trophy at The Home of Cricket.
It was a case of glass half full for Elvaston but half empty for the Jug and Glass as Elvaston quickly wrapped up a 10 wicket win over the team from North Derbyshire to ease their way into the Derbyshire Regional Final where they will travel north to play the village of Holmewood.
Asked to bat by their more experienced opponents, the Jug and Glass had no answer to the bowling of the home club and were all out for 49. In reply the Elvaston openers, wicket keeper James Heafield and 17 year old Elliott Lawley had no problems reaching their target in only 11 overs.
The winners of the Regional Final face a long haul to South Wales and a 500 mile return trip, one which Elvaston, twice previous winners of the Village Cup, will only be too happy to undertake.
It could yet be the Year of the Elf and underline the club's adopted motto for this season - United We Believe / Together We achieve.
